When extracting beats sending the whole thing
Most extraction jobs are about sparing someone a 60-page attachment. The signature page a lawyer asked for. Exhibit C, and only Exhibit C, for the vendor who shouldn't see the rest of the agreement. The two pages of a lease your bank wants for proof of address. Select, extract, send - the recipient gets exactly what they need and nothing they shouldn't have.
That last point is worth pausing on. Sending a full contract when someone needs one page isn't just clumsy, it can leak terms you'd rather keep private. Extraction is the polite version of redaction: the pages you didn't select simply aren't in the file. If you're choosing between this and splitting: extract takes pages out, split breaks the whole document into parts. For "pages 3 and 7 only", extract is your tool.
