Change your password
Update your password from Settings, Security. You stay signed in here, every other session is dropped, and the rule is eight characters with a letter and a digit.
Your password lives at Settings > Security, in the Change password card. Fill in the old one, the new one twice, and click Update password.
Change your password
-
Open Settings > Security.
-
Type your existing password into Current password.
-
Enter the replacement in New password and again in Confirm new password. The rule is eight characters or more, with at least one letter and one digit.
-
Click Update password. A short confirmation reads Password updated.

Nothing else changes on your account. Your documents, saved signatures and workspace membership are untouched.
What happens next
You stay signed in on this device. Every other session you had is revoked at once, which means a phone, a home laptop or a browser you used at a client site all land back on the sign-in screen. That is the point of the design: a password change should end access anywhere you are not sitting.
No email is sent about the change, so if you suspect somebody else has been in the account, turn on two-factor authentication in the card above while you are on the page.
Set a password on a Google or Microsoft account
An account created through a provider button has no password at all, so the page shows Set a password rather than the change form. Click Email me a setup link.
The message arrives under the subject Reset your Document eSign password, which reads oddly when you have never had one. Its link works once and once only: opening it a second time is refused, so ask for a fresh link rather than reusing the old one. It also expires after an hour. Pick a password from that page and this card turns into the normal change form, with Google or Microsoft sign-in still working alongside it.
If something goes wrong
- "Current password is incorrect." Sign out and use the forgot-password link instead if you cannot recall it.
- "Passwords do not match." The two new-password boxes differ. Confirm new password has a show/hide toggle so you can read back what you typed.
- "Your new password must be different from your current password." Pick something you have not used here before.
- The form rejects a short password. Eight characters is the floor, and there has to be a letter and a digit in there.
- Too many attempts. The form accepts five tries in five minutes. Wait a few minutes and try once, carefully.
- Locked out at sign-in. The lock lifts by itself after fifteen minutes. To skip the wait, use the forgot-password link and set a new password from the Reset your Document eSign password email, which clears the lock on its own. That link is single use, so request a new one if you have already spent it. Signing in and resetting your password covers the route.
Frequently asked questions
What are the password rules?
Eight characters or more, containing at least one letter and one digit, up to a hard maximum of 128. No symbol is required and no forced mix of upper and lower case. A long passphrase clears the bar without effort and is far harder to guess than a short scramble.
Will changing my password sign me out?
Not on the device you are using. Every other session is revoked the moment the change saves, so a phone, a tablet or a second browser will ask for the new password next time. Use this deliberately if you think somebody else has your old one.
I sign in with Google and there is no password form.
Your account has no password yet, so the page shows a Set a password card instead. Click Email me a setup link, open the message we send and choose a password there. The link is good for one hour. Google sign-in keeps working alongside it afterwards.
I forgot my current password. What now?
Sign out and use the forgot-password link on the sign-in screen. That path emails you a reset link and needs no old password. The form on this page always asks for the current one, because it exists to stop somebody changing the password at a desk you walked away from.
Why does it say my account is locked?
Five failed sign-ins in a row lock the account for fifteen minutes. Waiting it out is enough on its own, nothing is deleted and no admin has to step in. Resetting the password through the forgot-password email clears the counter straight away if you would rather not wait for the timer.
