Choose which emails you receive

Six event switches control the notifications sent to you. Transactional mail like verification codes and invitations always goes out, whatever you set here.

Updated Open in app

Six events can be emailed to you, and each one has its own switch. Open your notification preferences, turn off what you don't want, and click Save preferences.

Open your email notification preferences

There's no menu entry for it yet. Type the address into your browser while signed in, adding /settings/notifications to the end of the app's address, or open it directly at app.documentesign.com/settings/notifications. You land on a card headed Notifications, under a line reading "Choose which events you want to be emailed about." Everything on the page works normally. It's only the link into it that's missing.

Choose which email notifications you get

  1. Open the page and read the Event column. Each row names the event and explains when it fires.

  2. Use the switch in the Email column to turn a row on or off. Every row starts on.

  3. Click Save preferences. It stays grayed out until something differs from what is saved.

EventYou are emailed when
Signature requestsSomebody asks you to sign a document
RemindersAn automatic nudge goes out for a document you have not signed
Signer declinedA signer on one of your envelopes declines
Envelope completedEveryone has signed and the sealed PDF is ready
Envelope cancelledYou or another admin cancels an envelope
Envelope expiredAn envelope passes its deadline before everyone has signed

A sensible middle ground is to leave Envelope completed and Signer declined on, since both need a decision from you, and switch off whichever of the others is filling your inbox.

Emails that are never switched off

Mail your account depends on ignores this page entirely: verification codes, password reset links, workspace invitations and the PIN that opens a protected signing link. Turning those off would lock people out of their own accounts, so the switch doesn't exist.

The same applies in the other direction. These preferences cover mail sent to you, not mail sent by you. Recipients of your envelopes get their signing requests and reminders regardless, and a signer with no account cannot be filtered by anything here.

If something goes wrong

  • Save preferences won't light up. Nothing on the grid has changed yet. Flip a switch and it becomes available.
  • An email you switched off still arrived. Preferences are matched to your account by email address, so mail sent to a second address of yours is not covered. Check which mailbox it landed in.
  • You are getting nothing at all. Look in spam first, then check that your address on the Profile page is the one you are watching.
  • Someone else on the team still gets the alerts. Each person sets this for themselves. Point them at this page rather than trying to do it for them.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which emails can I not turn off?

Anything your account depends on. Email verification, password reset links, workspace invitations and the PIN codes that open a protected signing link all ignore this page. Switching those off would leave you locked out of your own account, or unable to open a document somebody sent you.

Does this change what my recipients receive?

No. These switches only govern mail addressed to you. A signer on one of your envelopes still gets their signing request, their reminders and their completion copy exactly as before, and somebody with no account of their own cannot be filtered by anything you set on this page.

I turned everything off. Will I miss a signature?

You won't be told by email, no. Document statuses on the **Documents** page carry on updating exactly as before, so nothing is lost. You have to go and look for it. Keep at least **Envelope completed** and **Signer declined** switched on unless you check the app daily.

Why is there only an Email column?

**Email** is the only delivery channel these six events use today. A second column would be an empty promise, so the grid stays one column wide. Anything you switch off here stops the email, and nothing else about the event changes inside the app.

Why do my switches look like they reset themselves?

Every row starts on and stays on until you save a change. A grid you toggled but never saved reads as untouched when you come back. Check that you clicked **Save preferences**. That button only lights up once something on the grid differs from what was stored.

Can an admin set this for the whole team?

No. Notification preferences belong to each person, and only that person can change them, so there is no admin screen for setting them in bulk. Workspace-wide email behavior, such as how often automatic reminders go out on an envelope, is a separate admin setting in the workspace policies.
