Your Inbox, documents waiting for you
The Inbox collects envelopes where you are the signer, whoever sent them. Documents holds what your workspace sent out. Two different lists, two different jobs.

Inbox is the list of documents other people need you to sign. It is separate from Documents, which holds the envelopes your workspace sent out, and the number beside it in the sidebar is a live count of what is waiting on you.
Sign something from your Inbox
-
Click Inbox in the left sidebar.

-
Read the card. It names the document, who sent it, which organization they sent it from, and how long ago the request arrived. Two badges sit on the right. A countdown reading Expires in 4d appears when the sender set a deadline, and it turns red inside the last three days, or once it says Expired. Opened means you have loaded the signing page for that document before without finishing it.

-
Click anywhere on the card to open the signing page in the same tab. Sign now does the same thing in a new tab, which is handy when you want to keep the list open.
From there it is the ordinary signing flow: consent, fill your fields, submit. Sign a document you received walks through that side of it.
What lands here, and what does not
An envelope reaches your Inbox when the recipient it was sent to is you, matched either against your account directly or against your account email address. Which company sent it makes no difference. A client on their own Document eSign account can put a card in your list.
Three rules decide whether you see it:
- You have to be a Signer. Being copied in puts the finished PDF in your email, not a task in your Inbox.
- It has to be your turn. On a document signed in a set order, your card appears only once the people ahead of you are done.
- The envelope has to be live. Cancelled, expired and completed ones drop out.
The list holds the fifty most recent requests, newest first. There is no second page and no load-more button, so on the rare account with more than fifty open requests the older ones are simply not drawn. Open those from the invitation email you were sent, or from Documents if the envelope came from your own workspace.
How it differs from Documents
Documents answers "what have we sent out". It is scoped by your role, so a member sees their own envelopes, a manager also sees their team's, and an admin sees the workspace. Inbox answers "what is waiting on me", and role has nothing to do with it.
An envelope can appear in both. If you send a contract and add yourself as one of the signers, you will find it in Documents as the sender and in Inbox as a signer, with the same deadline on both. Signing your part clears the Inbox card and leaves the document in place.
If something goes wrong
- The count says 2 but the page shows nothing. Refresh. The badge and the list load separately, so a stale tab can disagree with itself.
- A request went to your work address, not your account address. It will never appear here. Sign from the link in the email, and ask the sender to use your account address next time.
- The card is there but the signing page says it is not your turn. The envelope moved on between the list loading and your click, usually because you signed it in another tab.
- The badge shows nothing at all. Nothing is waiting. The empty state reads Your inbox is quiet.
- You want it gone without signing. Decline it. That records a reason for the sender and clears the card.
Frequently asked questions
Someone sent me a document but my Inbox is empty. Why?
Most often the envelope went to a different address than the one on your account, since matching is done on your account email. It can also be a sequential document where somebody ahead of you has yet to sign. Open the link in the invitation email instead.
Do documents from other companies show up here?
Yes. The Inbox is built around you as a person, not around your workspace, so a request from any Document eSign customer appears once it reaches your turn. Each card names the sender and their organization so you can tell an outside request from an internal one.
Why did an item vanish from my Inbox?
It leaves the moment it stops needing you. Signing it, declining it, forwarding it to someone else, or the sender cancelling the envelope all remove the card. A signed document is still readable through the completion email and the copy attached to it.
What does the Opened badge mean?
You have loaded the signing page for that document at least once without finishing. It is a reminder to yourself, and the sender sees the matching entry on their side, so an item sitting with Opened on it for days is the one likely to attract a reminder.
