Schedule a document to send later
Pick a future date and time on the review step and the envelope waits as a draft until then. Reschedule, send early or cancel from the document page.
Scheduled send holds a finished envelope as a draft and dispatches it at a date and time you pick, in your workspace timezone, not yours and not the recipient's. Choose Schedule for later under When to send on the review step, set the moment, and click Schedule send.
Who can schedule a send
Anyone who can send a document, on Business and above. Your workspace admin can switch the feature off for everyone under Settings > Advanced > Scheduled send, in which case the When to send block never appears.
Schedule a document to send later
-
Upload the file, add recipients and place fields, then click Continue to reach the review step. Continue will not move on until every signer has a signature field, so a queued envelope is always a complete one.
-
In the Send settings panel, find When to send and select Schedule for later. Send now is the default.
-
Click the date button and pick a day in the calendar. Past dates and anything beyond your workspace's lead-time limit are greyed out.
-
Type the time in the Time field. The line underneath names the timezone being used, for example "Sent in Asia/Kolkata (IST)".

-
Click Schedule send. The button only becomes clickable once the time you picked is genuinely in the future.
What happens to a scheduled document
You land back on Documents with the envelope still a draft, now carrying a Scheduled badge and a Sends pill with the date. Nobody has been emailed and no signing link exists yet.
Open the document and a banner reads "Scheduled to send" with the full date and time, plus three controls:
- Send now dispatches it immediately and clears the schedule.
- Reschedule opens the same date and time picker. Change it and click Save new time.
- Cancel schedule returns the envelope to an ordinary editable draft. It does not delete anything.

At the scheduled minute the envelope goes out exactly as a manual send would: the first signer (or everyone, on a parallel envelope) is emailed, expiry starts counting from that moment, and the document moves to In progress.
If something goes wrong
- "Pick a time in the future." The chosen moment is less than a minute away. Push it out and the message clears.
- "Max 90 days from today." You went past the workspace lead-time limit. The number in the message is the real limit; an admin can raise it up to 365 days.
- The When to send block is missing. Either your plan does not include scheduled send, or an admin disabled it for the workspace.
- The Edit button vanished from a draft. That draft is scheduled. Cancel the schedule and Edit comes back.
- The scheduled time passed and nothing went out. The dispatch runs the same readiness checks as a manual send, so a signer without a signature field or a workspace over its sending limit will hold it. Open the document, fix what it names, then use Send now.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead can I schedule a send?
Ninety days by default. Your workspace admin can lower or raise that to anything between 1 and 365 days under Settings, Advanced, Scheduled send. Pick a date beyond the limit and the picker refuses it with a message naming the real maximum, so nothing is queued.
Which timezone is the time in?
Your workspace timezone, not the recipient's and not the one on your laptop. The picker prints it under the date and time fields, for example "Sent in Asia/Kolkata (IST)". There is no per-envelope timezone choice, so change the workspace setting if it is wrong.
Does a scheduled document use up a document from my monthly allowance?
It reserves one while it waits. The usage figure on your dashboard counts queued envelopes alongside sent ones, so the slot is held from the moment you schedule. Your plan limits are then checked again at dispatch, and a workspace sitting at its cap will see the send held rather than dropped.
Can I edit the document while it is scheduled?
No. The Edit button disappears while a schedule is set, because changing the file or the fields would quietly alter what gets sent. Click Cancel schedule and the document returns to being a plain draft you can edit, then schedule it again when you are done.
What do recipients see before the send time?
Nothing at all. No email leaves, no signing link exists yet, and nobody outside your workspace knows the document is coming. The banner on your own document page says as much. A queued envelope is still a draft, and drafts stay private to the person who created them.
