Plan limits at a glance: documents, templates, seats
Every cap on Free, Growth, Business and Ultimate in one table, plus the exact message you see when you reach one.
Free sends 30 documents a month (at most 10 a day) to up to 5 recipients each, keeps 3 templates, and seats one person. Every paid plan removes the monthly cap and the seat cap. What changes between Growth, Business and Ultimate is the daily ceiling and the template count.
The limits by plan
| Limit | Free | Growth | Business | Ultimate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Documents per month | 30 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Documents per day | 10 | 100 | 250 | 500 |
| Recipients per document | 5 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| Saved templates | 3 | 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Seats | 1 | Per user, no cap | Per user, no cap | Flat price, no cap |
| Bulk send rows per batch | Not included | Not included | 10 | 25 |
Ten recipients per document is the product-wide ceiling. On paid plans the Add recipient button disappears at ten and the wizard shows Maximum of 10 recipients per document (signers + CCs).
Enterprise is a negotiated plan, so its numbers are whatever your agreement says. If your workspace is on a managed or custom plan, every limit notice in the app swaps the upgrade link for a Contact support button, because you cannot self-serve an upgrade.
Prices are on the pricing page. This article only covers what the plans cap.
What one document means
One send is one document. It does not matter how many PDFs you dropped into the envelope or how many people have to sign it. The count goes up when you click Send. Uploads and drafts are free.
Three things people miss:
- A bulk send counts one document per CSV row. A 10-row batch on Business uses 10 of that day's 250.
- Choosing I am the only signer on the upload step and signing it yourself counts as a send.
- Documents that expire, get declined or get cancelled still count. They were sent.
The trial runs on Free volume
New workspaces get a 14-day Business trial. It exists so you can try Business features (bulk send, public links, in-person signing and scheduled send). While it runs, your volume stays at the Free numbers in the table above, and bulk sends are capped at 5 rows. Subscribe to any paid plan and the real numbers apply immediately.
Where you see your usage
Open Settings then Billing. A Current plan card names the plan and shows seats as, for example, 2 of 5 seats used. On paid per-seat plans a Manage seats button sits beside it.

Document usage is deliberately quiet until it matters. On Free and during a trial:
- Below 80 percent of the month, the sidebar shows a Get unlimited documents link and no numbers.
- From 80 percent, the sidebar swaps to a Docs this month meter (for example 24/30, 6 left) and the dashboard shows a banner reading 6 documents left this month.
- At the cap the meter turns red with None left and the dashboard banner reads You've used all your documents for this month, followed by the reset date.
Paid plans see none of this. Your daily ceiling on Growth, Business and Ultimate is never displayed. It only surfaces in a message if you reach it.
What happens at each limit
Monthly documents (Free, trial). Both Send for signature and Bulk send stay visible, but clicking either opens a small popover titled You've used all your documents for this month with the reset date and an Upgrade plan button. No wizard opens. If you land on the upload step some other way, it shows the same message as a red alert and the dropzone is disabled.
Daily documents (every plan). Your send is refused and a toast reads Daily sending limit reached with a View plans action. Nothing is lost; the document stays as a draft and you can send it after the reset. Midnight UTC is 5:30 am in India and 7 or 8 pm the previous evening on the US East Coast, depending on daylight saving.
Recipients per document. On Free, sending to a sixth recipient is refused with Recipient limit for this document reached. On paid plans the tenth recipient removes the Add recipient button.
Templates. Clicking New template at the limit opens a popover reading You've used all your templates with your plan's count. Archived templates count towards the number, so archiving one does not free a slot. Deleting it does. Free includes 3, Growth 10, Business and above unlimited.
Seats. Free is a single-person workspace, and the Team page shows You've reached your seat limit with an upgrade link. Paid plans have no seat cap. Each new member adds a seat to the bill, except on Ultimate, which is one flat price.
Bulk send rows. A CSV with more rows than your plan allows is refused with Bulk send row limit reached. Split the file or move up a plan.
If something goes wrong
- The meter says None left but I have not sent anything this month. Allowances are per workspace, so during a trial a colleague's sends count against the same 30. Check the reset date in the notice as well. Your month runs from the signup or subscription date, not the calendar month, so a workspace created on the 20th resets on the 20th.
- I hit the daily limit on a paid plan. Wait for midnight UTC and the counter resets on its own. If you regularly need more than your plan's daily ceiling, the next plan up doubles it or more.
- The limit notice offers Contact support instead of Upgrade. Your plan is managed for you. Use the button; it opens a support message pre-filled with the limit you hit.
- I upgraded but the block is still showing. Reload the page.
Frequently asked questions
How many documents can I send on the Free plan?
Free sends 30 documents a month and at most 10 in one day, with up to 5 recipients on each document. The monthly counter resets on the date shown in the limit notice, and the daily counter resets at midnight UTC. Every paid plan removes the monthly cap.
Do paid plans have a document limit?
There is no monthly limit on Growth, Business, Ultimate or Enterprise. Each paid plan does have a daily fair-use ceiling (100 a day on Growth, 250 on Business, 500 on Ultimate). It is not shown anywhere in the app and only matters if you actually reach it, at which point sending resumes at midnight UTC.
What counts as one document?
One send equals one document, however many files are inside the envelope or however many people sign it. A bulk send from a CSV counts one document per row. Self-signed documents count too. Drafts that were never sent do not count against the month.
Why do I see a lower limit during my trial?
A 14-day Business trial turns on Business features such as bulk send and public links. Sending volume stays at the Free allowance for the whole 14 days. Bulk sends are capped at 5 rows during the trial as well. Subscribe to any paid plan and the caps lift the same minute.
Where can I check how much of my allowance I have used?
On Free and during a trial, the sidebar shows a Docs this month meter once you pass 80 percent of the allowance, and the dashboard shows a banner with the number of documents left. Below 80 percent the counter stays hidden. Seats and plan name are on Settings, then Billing.
